born in Japan, started playing the piano at the age of three. While completing Master’s Degree in Music Education in Germany, she composed music and gave concerts throughout Europe, Japan and Korea. In 1988, Keiko moved to the U.S., to study Jazz and perform, where she encountered Music Therapy. In 1998, she received Master’s Degree in Music Therapy from New York University and became a Board Certified Music Therapist. She relocated to Hawai‘i in 2000. Observing growing needs for music therapy in Hawai‘i, Keiko established Sounding Joy Music Therapy, Inc., the first non-profit organization in Hawai‘i to promote and provide music therapy. Sounding Joy Music Therapy has served more than 60,000 people since its establishment in 2002, become a university-affiliated internship site for music therapy interns since 2003, and received numerous awards and recognitions for its outstanding services to the most vulnerable individuals and communities in Hawai‘i.  Keiko serves as President and Clinical Director of the organization, also has taught Music Therapy introductory course at Hawaii Pacific University, and lectures locally and internationally. She was awarded Wilhelmina Harbert Professional Conference Scholar by the Western Region of American Music Therapy Association (2013), and Professional Scholar at World Congress of Music Therapy 2014 in Vienna, Austria.
