Ernest Nishizaki is the Principal and Managing Member of Acumen Advisor, LLC, providing consulting and advocacy advice and services in the field of hospitality tourism-related issues, and sustainability. He has over 44 years of visitor industry experience of which 32 years in executive level positions with Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Sheraton Hotels and Resorts and 12 years in hotel asset management as Executive Vice-President of Kyo-ya Company, LLC and as President of Kyo-ya Management Company, Ltd.
Born in Honolulu, Nishizaki graduated from the University of Hawaii with a Business Administration degree in Travel Industry Management. The University of Hawaii College of Business Administration Alumni Hall of Honor selected him as the first recipient of the Travel Industry Management Outstanding Alumnus Award (1992-93). In 1998, he was honored with the University of Hawaii Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Public Schools of Hawaii Kulia I Ka Nu`u Award and the UH Travel Industry Management Legacy in Tourism Award.
Very active in community organizations, he served as the Vice Chair of the Aloha United Way from 2012-2018. He is the past Vice Chair and Commissioner for the Hawaii State Public Charter School Commission. In support of the University of Hawaii he is a member of the University of Hawaii TIM School Advisory Council. He also serves as an executive committee member and director of the SoFi Hawaii Bowl as well as President of the Hawaii Bowl Foundation. He is a member of the Hawaiian Airlines
Diamond Head Classic steering committee.
Clearly committed to the sustainability of our island environment and our economy and resources, he currently serves as Vice Chair and board member of the Blue Planet Foundation and a member of the University of Hawaii Sea Grant Center for Sustainable Coastal Tourism as well as an advisor to the Sea Grant Program.
