Mehelanie Fernandez is a 15 years old and the youngest of 4. Born inWaipahu, Hawaii she is currently attending Waipahu High
School, home of the Marauders Soon to be Junior of class of 2015. She belongs to a Interact Club where she gets to interact and volunteer to help out her community.
A passion of Mahelani is playing music on the piano and writing poetry, especially slam, to escape from my troubles. She also recently joined my school’s Judo team in January to try something new.
Mahelani likes dealing with problems, challenges, and surprises because she knows they might break her but surely will make her. She says she is not a perfect person but knows she is capable of magnificence. As I child Mahelani always had an interest in other cultures, especially languages. She dreams of traveling the world speaking every language possible . She remembers running up and down the streets, stopped to take a short breathe and then burst into another sprint. Each house she passed were countries. She wants to visit; Ireland, Britain, China, Korea, and even Japan. One culture in particular stood out for her and that was Japanese. Japanese was a subject I got good grades, so why not pursue it? And she is! Mahelani was the lucky student that was able to do a home stay student exchange in Japan in April thanks to the Waikiki Rotary Club!
