 Chuck Miller

Director of Development

The Institute for Human Services, Inc.

Chuck MillerJoined IHS as Director of Development about eight months ago.  The reason he sold most of his possessions and moved almost 5,000 miles from his home in Maryland has a little something to do with weather and quality of life, but it mostly has to do with the people at IHS and their great mission:  providing respite for those who are unsheltered and solutions that transform the lives of homeless and at-risk people.  While this mission would be compelling anywhere, it is even more gripping when viewed in light of just how big Oahu’s homeless problem has become.  Faced with a high cost of living and low wage jobs, more than 7,500 people live on Oahu’s streets and beaches, and Hawaii ranks third nationally in homeless individuals per capita.  He is charged with raising a significant amount of money over the next several years to help IHS expand its leadership role in providing solutions to homelessness.  He brings ten years of fundraising experience to the table, and I am joining a team of four other committed professionals.
